I had been wanting to visit Anglesey Circuit for a while, it looked interesting when I watched some racing from there on tv and I had seen photos from there where the sea is part of the background.
So, a few weeks ago an old friend of mine - Gary Ward - got in touch about his racing plans for this season with an ex Didier Theys Ralt RT4 to race in Classic F3 in the HSCC run series. He mentioned also that he was going to run the car at a track day at Anglesey on a Saturday late in March.
I booked the day off from work and made plans to go there and take some photos at that track day.
A long drive after work on the Friday night, saw me arrive at a Holyhead hotel around half past midnight. A good sleep followed and Saturday dawned brighter than forecast, though stepping outside revealed just how windy and extremely cold it was.
A hearty breakfast set me up well for the day and I was soon on my way to the Circuit. At some parts of the last few miles to the Circuit, the road is close to sea level and it was quite amazing to see the very large waves crashing against the shore. Surf was definitely up, but it wasn't a morning to be out there on a board.
After meeting up with Gary and having a short chat, I headed off for a wander to explore the photo possibilities that the spectator areas would provide. Soon it was obvious that the 'hoped for' shot with the coast in the background would have required a Press Pass to access the position needed.
However, some interesting angles soon presented themselves and I clicked away in the unexpectedly sunny conditions all the while being buffeted by that strong and chilly wind.
Over the course of the day I was able to achieve several really pleasing photos of the Ralt on track - with some angles also helping Gary to see how the car was behaving in certain corners.
I also took photos of most of the other cars that were on track that day, but it was important that I captured some great shots for Gary.
I enjoyed my first experience of the Circuit and would hope to get back there sometime for a raceday.
