The River Wey runs near home, with the Ripley/Pyrford stretch being fairly close and also fairly photogenic at times.
On Saturday (21st) I visited a favourite spot hoping for a nice sunset, particularly as the forecast suggested some small amounts of cloud - which can be great for catching the colour of the setting sun.
Sadly, as happens all too often, the forecast was wide of the mark and I was once again in the right spot at not quite the right time as it was very clear.
However, a few decent photos did make their way onto my memory card and I returned home more determined than ever that I would get up early enough for sunrise the following morning.
An early alarm call for the Sunday morning saw me arriving at the same car park at around 7am, on a cold and frosty morning, though it was still very clear and with no breeze.
I made my way to Papercourt Lock, and captured a pastel coloured sunrise before also capturing the frosty grasses and reeds and some nice reflections as the sun rose further.
A walk in the opposite direction also yielded frosty and frozen shots of the river at Newark Lock and past that to where you can see the old ruins of Newark Priory.
Went home very happy - one of those times where the effort of an early start was definitely worth it.
