The Masters Historic Racing Festival at Brands Hatch at the end of May has been one of the racing highlights that I have looked forward to each season for several years.
The FIA Masters Historic F1 championship has 2 rounds over the two day, a great opportunity to see F1 cars from the 70's & 80's racing around a track that has changed very little from when they raced there originally - and with the cars in their original liveries, everything looks the part and most are powered by the iconic and distinctive sounding Cosworth DFV engine. A couple of seasons ago, Rob Hall thrilled enthusiasts with the beautiful sounding Matra.
The other big highlight for me is the FIA Masters Historic Sports Car championship - especially as I particularly like the thundering Chevrolet engine Lola T70 mk3b's.
This year there were demos of a few Cosworth engine F1 cars to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this engine's introduction into F1.
Steve Soper and Henry Mann charged to victory in the Historic Saloon car race in their Mustang.
Reigning FIA Masters F1 Champion, Nick Padmore, drove the Shadow DN5 (above) to a double victory in the Pre'78 class of the F1 series, while his team mate at Forza Historic Racing, Max Smith-Hilliard had a mixed weekend in the Fittipaldi F5 (below).
