Formula Ford Festival fun

The Forrmula Ford Festival has long been one the highlights of the racing season, with this years 46th running coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the category being introduced. It has always provided close and exciting wheel to wheel racing and the support races added to the entertainment this year.

Joey Foster (above) triumphed in an excellent Final, having taken the lead with a thrilling move around the outside of Neil Maclennan at Paddock.

The above photo shows Keith Donegan ahead of Maclennan and Matthew Cowley during the Final - all of whom featured in the close racing throughout the weekend.

The combined ranks of the Sports 2000 Duratec & Pinto classes put on two superb races on Sunday.

Thomas Johansson spun out of his Festival Semi-Final at Paddock on the opening lap, but had a good run in the Masters event later in the day in his superbly presented Van Diemen RF92 (above), while John Ferguson (below) won that Masters event despite this slide at Surtees while being hotly pursued by Jake Byrne.

Two different categories on the approach to Druids, with Jamie Thorburn leading a group of FF1600's (above) and Garry Lawrence ahead of a pack of Porsches below.

Rory Smith ahead of Henry Chart, David McCullough and Michael McPherson at the bottom of Paddock Bend during their Semi-Final.

The above photos are just a few of my highlights from an excellent day of racing - one which I thoroughly enjoyed.

I returned home to watch the USA Grand Prix and saw Max Verstappen penalised for a fantastic overtake on the last lap.

He was penalised for 'all 4 wheels off track', but at least he was racing - something I had seen a lot of in its purest form earlier in the day.

Long live Formula Ford !!!

Update since - I had planned to visit Brands mid November for last of season and what would probably be end of me having a press pass. Sadly, circumstances dictated differently and thus this Festival meeting will probably prove to have been my last with a press pass. I will return as spectator for a few visits next season and for subsequent seasons - intending to go to Masters Historic Festival and few other selected meetings through the year.

J have great memories from my years trackside, with the added advantage of a pass, and will miss some angles that are not available from spectator area - the outside of Westfield, Paddock, Surtees & Druids are some privileged positions I will definitely miss.
