The Seven Sisters Country Park is part of the South Downs National Park and forms part of the South Down Way and is one of our favourite places in the Country. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty, where the countryside meets the sea - particularly around Cuckmere Haven and the River Cuckmere.
I had wanted to take a photo from the hill on the east side of the Cuckmere and knew it needed to be a morning photo as the sun would be right, as it gets round further later in the day and you would be looking into the sun.
A beautiful winter day dawned cold and breezy - we are expecting snow tonight and the coming week as the winds bring weather from the east - so it was very fresh down by the river and the sea. I wrapped up warm after parking at the visitor centre (£4 all day, very reasonable) and set off on my walk.
The photo above shows the meandering River Cuckmere, with the sea just visible towards the left on the horizon.
After walking on the South Downs Way route, through fields of grazing sheep, my walk brought me down towards the main path that runs from the visitor centre to the sea. The photo above shows the view from that point, with the visitor centre visible towards the right side of the pic.
I turned round after this photo and went through another gateway into another field of sheep and then down to the concrete path. Here I was able to get to a few different spots and include a 'kissing gate' in the foreground of the next photo as I looked towards the visitor centre again.
My final photo for the day saw me use a line of fence as a 'lead-in' line as I looked inland from the path as I neared the beach. Following the photo below, I returned to the car via the riverside path.
If I had continued the walk, I would have reached the beach at Cuckmere Haven. From there I could return to the car, or I could have continued east and headed up onto the Seven Sisters cliff top but that would have required a lot more time and energy than I had available today.
