We visited Sissinghurst Castle a few weeks ago, while the gardens were still closed for the end of their winter break, and vowed to return once the gardens were open and some blooms should be evident.
This visit showed it off really well. It truly is a gem in the National trust portfolio of properties. There were trees in blossom, daffodils, many varieties of tulip, and lots of other colour around.
Out in the main garden area, some daffodils were still in bloom and there were several blossom laden trees - creating the possibility of framing the castle towers with the blossom and flowers (as can be seen below).
Within the walls around the castle, there are several garden areas. The photo below shows the entrance to the white garden, where a big pot of white tulips graced the middle of the pathway.
Around the other side of the gardens, were a large variety of tulips - in many colours and interspersed with other flowers to add to the colourful palette.
photos to follow shortly - of the tulips
Following our walk around the gardens, we set off on an extended walk that goes around the estate. There I managed to capture the photo below, showing the seed head of a pollenated dandelion - a photo I was very pleased with for the intricate detail.
