The Ouse Valley Viaduct, which is also know as the Balcombe Viaduct because of its' proximity to the West Sussex village, is not too far from home and we had seen a few photos of it. I searched and then downloaded a walk route, that started from the car park at Ardingly Resevoir.
The Reservoir is a local nature reserve and a watersports centre from which it is also possible to enjoy various walking routes.
We only walked as far as the viaduct and then back via the same route. The viaduct is a very impressive piece of engineering, work having originally started on this in 1839. It was eventually completed in 1942, but a few trains went across in 1841 apparently.
See the lower photo for a view looking along the underside - an amazing sight.
