The National Trust property at Petworth House & Park has always been one we have known was there but previously chosen to not visit. Our visit was on what had been forecast as being a fairly decent day for sunshine, but we got unlucky and it was quite overcast most of the time that I was within photo range of the House and the Lake. The best sun we had was when we were at the furthest point of our parkland walk.
Having parked the car and entered the property we chose to walk around the Pleasure Grounds first. This took us around the main garden area, including to the Ionic Rotunda and the Doric Temple (pic below).
Thereafter, we made our way out into the Park, where there are a couple of ponds though I would call the Upper one ( the main one) a lake instead (see photo at top). This pond had plenty of Canada Geese, plus Greylag Geese and Coots.
Continuing our walk away from that pond and further away from the house, we walked a long way around most of the perimeter of the Park. This was a very pleasant walk, though it should be noted that the only toilet facilities are at the house and the entrance to the property and therefore none as you get further away.
One of the features of the Park is the large numbers of Deer on view, they are quite timid generally and don't usually wait for you to get too close before they turn and wander away.
