Back at Brands Hatch - after a whole year

Updated: Aug 16

Anyone who knows me well would not believe that a whole year has passed since my last visit to Brands Hatch. Previously, that long a gap would have been unheard of but much has happened this past year.

On Sunday I was able to attend the Mini Festival, a year since my last visit for the same meeting last August.

Work commitments dictated that I could not attend the Saturday, nor indeed the Sunday morning but I made it in time for the afternoon action of the Sunday.

Missing the earlier parts of the weekend meant that I missed two superb victories for Nick Padmore in the Mini Miglia races, but there was still race 3 to come.

The afternoon started with a close and exciting Mini Seven race, where the led group swapped places all around the lap throughout the 20mins race.

The Fastest Mini in the World is the grand title of the next race, though I cannot be alone in thinking that this is a bit of an exaggerated claim.

Then it was onto the Miglias, much anticipated by me due to Nick having won the two earlier races and due to the regular Miglia place swapping battles seen on many previous occasions.

This one didn't disappoint, apart from maybe the eventual 4th place for Nick. It was a typical Miglia race, an 8 care group broke away at the front and exchanged places with alarming regularity around the Indy Circuit. It was possible to be 2nd at the start of the lap and 8th by the end of it and anywhere in between during it. Fabulous racing and an overdue win for a previous champion Endaf Owens.
